Nursing
Nurses carry out medical orders and apply medical treatments. The nurse at BBRC interacts with the patients daily. The nurse, along with the physician, reviews the patient's medications on a regular basis. Side effects and efficacy, dosages and drug interactions are also monitored. Pill boxes are provided by BBRC for the patient and instruction is given as to how and when they should be filled. Medications that need to be taken during the day when the patient is at BBRC are dispensed by the nurse. Our patients' medications are closely monitored and assistance is provided when it is time for refills.
The nurse often is the liaison between the patient and their other outside physicians and case managers. Every attempt is made to communicate with other physicians and health care providers regarding medications and tests they may prescribe for the patient.
In addition, the nurse at BBRC facilitates a group therapy session on a daily basis. The purpose of the session is to provide health education. These sessions provide the patient with information about medications with regard to their usage, side effects, dosages and drug interactions. Treatment sessions are also used to teach the patient disease processes, head injury sequelae and management with post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, psychotic disorder and their prevention. These sessions include discussions on self-esteem, spirituality, anger and other emotional aspects that contribute positively or negatively to the disease process.
