Peer And Family Support

Special outings are scheduled for the clients throughout the year. These events include picnics at the park, shopping trips to Meijer and Kmart, outings to the cider mill and Farmer's Market. These outings have included family members. The clients generally assist in the planning and organization of activities.

Clients participate in peer groups in which they provide and receive support, develop friendships, and work on skills to help them cope with the changes that their injury has created.

At BBRC, we make every effort to provide family members with information about brain injuries and support them by helping them cope with their loved one's recovery. We provide collateral therapy when necessary. We believe that one's family plays an integral role in a client's recovery.

Team meetings/care conferences are generally held on a regular basis to bring as many members of the treatment team together as possible, such as case managers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, insurance adjusters, the client's family, and attorney. During these meetings the client's progress or lack thereof is discussed and possible alternatives to the treatment plan are discussed.
